Why mastering is still essential before CD pressing

Before starting duplication or pressing, we pay particular attention to the last technical stage of the project: CD mastering. It is what finalises a track, an EP or an album in the right conditions, with a consistent, dynamic sound that is ready to play on any system. On an audio CD, this stage matters even more because it must meet precise manufacturing standards.

We prepare a master that meets audio CD standards

A CD cannot be made from just any file. To be usable, the master must comply with the Red Book standard, in 16-bit / 44.1 kHz format. We work from WAV or FLAC files, to preserve the quality of the project and prepare a clean, reliable master ready for duplication or pressing.

We aim for a balanced sound, without distortion

Mastering is not just about turning up the volume. Our job is to adjust levels, EQ, dynamics and transitions between tracks for a consistent result. For a CD, we aim for a loudness level of around –9 LUFS integrated, with a maximum peak of –1 dBTP, to keep a powerful sound with no clipping or distortion.

We also adapt the work to multi-track projects

For an album, mastering takes on an extra dimension. We make sure the sound is consistent from one track to the next, with the right spacing between tracks and an overall balance. The goal is a smooth, consistent listen from start to finish, whether the album is then released on CD or in other formats.

We secure production before duplication or pressing

Once mastering is complete, we can prepare a production-ready master, including DDP when the project requires it. We support each client until delivery of the CD master and the proof, to limit errors before production. We then offer duplication from 100 copies and pressing from 50 copies.

Why use our CD mastering service?

We offer tailored support, from receiving the files to final approval of the master. Whether the project is a single, an EP or a full album, we prepare a professional result designed for physical media and meeting the technical requirements of the audio CD. Prices vary with the number of tracks and the complexity of the work, with a stated range of €80 to €200 incl. VAT for 1 to 3 tracks, and €300 to €600 incl. VAT for 8 to 12 tracks.

Key takeaways

Good mastering makes all the difference before CD production. It ensures technical standards are met, levels are under control, the listening experience is consistent and the master is truly ready for duplication or pressing. This attention to detail is what lets us deliver a reliable, professional project, ready to come to life on physical media.
